Estoprime LV

 Low Viscosity Epoxy Based Primer

Estoprime LV is a two component, low viscosity, solvent free epoxy primer. It is suitable for dense substrates where maximum primer penetration is required.

Estoprime LV is the recommended primers for the Estogard range of epoxy resin high build coatings, toppings and screeds. The primers “wet out”, form a film, seal the substrate and promote adhesion. The choice of priming system depends on the end use of the floor and particular site conditions.

  • Excellent adhesion to concrete, cementitious screeds and subsequent epoxy overlay
  • Good bonding on metal surface
  • Easy to use – simple roller application
  • Low viscosity ensures maximum primer penetration

Application Instructions

The relevant data sheet for the product overlay must be read before applying the primer. This gives full details for applying the complete system.

Surface Preparation

It is essential that the priming system is applied to  a sound, clean, dry substrate in order to achieve the maximum adhesive bond and long term durability.

New Concrete Floors

Allow the concrete floor to cure for at least 28 days old and give a hygrometer reading not exceeding RH 75% when tested in accordance with BS 8203. Appendix A. Dry removal of laitence by captive blasting or mechanical scarification (for toppings and screeds) is recommended. Where this is not feasible, treat with acid etch product, followed by thorough rinsing with water and complete drying. Dust and other debris should then be removed by vacuum brush.

Old Concrete Floors

A sound, clean substrate is essential to achieve maximum adhesion. Preparation should be carried out as for old concrete floors. Oil and grease penetration should be removed by hot compressed air treatment.

Important note – on no account should Estoprime LV be used with the hot compressed air treatment.

The primer must be mixed in proportions supplied. The entire contents of the hardener tin should be poured into the base tin and the two materials mixed thoroughly for at least one minute. The use of a heavy duty, slow speed, flame proof or air driven drill fitted with a suitable mixing paddle is desirable.

When mixed, the primer should be applied immediately with a solvent resistant short pile roller or stiff brush in a thin continuous film. Care should be taken to avoid over application or puddles.

If the primer is being overlaid with an Estogard high build coating or self smoothing epoxy topping, the primed surface should be allowed to become tack free before overcoating.

If, however, the primer is left for longer than the maximum overcoating time of 24 hours at 20oC (12 hours at 30oC) the substrate must be abraded, solvent degreased and reprimed. If the primer is being overlaid with a trowel-applied screed, this screed should be applied while the product is still tacky.

This is to ensure that there is sufficient resistance to the trowel and the screed does not skid over the floor surface.

Estoprime LV should not be applied onto surfaces known to, or likely to suffer from rising damp conditions or have a relative humidity greater than 75% as measured in accordance with BS8203 Appendix A or by a Vaisala thermo-hygrometer  type HMI 31. The products should not be used below 10oC.

Packing & Size

The coverage figures given are theoretical – due to wastage factors and the variety and nature of possible substrates, practical coverage figures will be reduced. Typically, an  additional 10% should be allowed.

Technical Support

Estop offers a comprehensive range of high performance, high quality of product for both new and existing concrete surfaces.   In addition, the company offers a technical support package to specifiers, end-users and contractors, as well as  on-site technical assistance.

Store in dry conditions between 5oC and 30oC, away from surfaces of heat and naked flames, in unopened packs. All products have a shelf life of 12 months if kept in a dry store in  the original, unopened packs.

Contact with the skin must be avoided. Gloves and barrier cream should be used when handling these products. If contact with the resin occurs, the skin should be washed immediately with soap and water. Eye contamination must be immediately washed with copious quantities of water and medical treatment sought.

Additional Information

Estop manufactures and offers a wide range of complementary products, which includes waterstops, waterproofing products, grouts, anchors, specialized flooring products. In addition, a wide range of products formulated for repair and refurbishment of spalled concrete are available.
